Illegal Limos Could Put Your Life At Risk

Limos are famed because they were once reserved for well-off people. But now limos have become a common sight carrying people to and from the airport and other social activities like prom night.

But people should be wary about illegal limos. How safe are limos? Should they be running on the roads? Mind you, some limos could put your life at risk. So be sure you are hiring or using a legal road machine. Look for the official license plate.

NewsNet5 has this wonderful article about illegal limos. Here is an excerpt:

After months of investigating, NewsChannel5 chief investigator Duane Pohlman discovered many of the vehicles in northeast Ohio are operating illegally, and that could put many passengers at risk. Pohlman said that the difference between a legal limo and an illegal one is easy to spot. Passengers should look for a sticker on the license plate that reads "livery vehicle."

All limos in Ohio are required to have those stickers, and if they don't, according to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, those drivers are breaking the law. To be legal, limo companies have to prove their cars carry a minimum $300,000 coverage on a commercial insurance policy - enough to protect passengers if there's a crash.

However, it is expensive. Commercial insurance costs three to four times more than normal insurance. One local limo driver said, “It can cost about $4,000 per year on average per car.” Pohlman said that's what the law requires to get that sticker.

A spokeswoman with the BMV said that she would not get into a limo that didn’t have livery vehicle plates. “It would be like knowingly going into a car that you know is not insured. You don’t want to do it,” she said.

NewsChannel5 sent an investigative team to the Embassy Suites in downtown Cleveland to catch a ride with a limo. The limo arrived without the sticker.

NewsChannel5 met the owner and driver of Rid N 4U Transportation. His name is Daryl and he said he has a $300,000 insurance policy to cover passengers he carries, adding, “You gotta make sure the people are covered.” But when pressed about the plates. He said, “You don’t have to have the livery plates.”

Pohlman said that's not according to Ohio's law. He said even if Daryl or any other limo drivers buy insurance and don't disclose they're driving a limo, the passengers aren't covered.

The president of Insurance Diversified, Terry Carson verified this. “So in fact, if they have an accident while they were carrying a passenger for a fee, the damage to that vehicle, even if they had collision coverage, would not apply,” Carson said.

At Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, which is owned by the city of Cleveland, Pohlman watched an endless stream of illegal limos picking up and dropping off passengers as police officers stood watch nearby. Not one officer approached or confronted the limo drivers, he said.

Pink H3 Hummer Limousine

Pink H3 Hummer Limousine

I saw this exotic pink limousine featured in luxist.com.

Though pink is a nice feminine color, I say it’s too much - it's just overflowing with pink. Furthermore, the exterior design doesn’t seem to attract me. I love a limousine with smooth curves in its exterior.

Getting inside is the awesome part. You could find these following features in this Pink Limousine for hire in the United Kingdom:
  • Professional Uniformed Chauffeur
  • Black/White J seating luxury leather
  • Latest DVD Player & Multi-speaker CD Sound System
  • Latest touch screen Climate Control & Heating systems
  • Large selection of DVD’s, CD’s for your entertainment
  • x4 Flat Screen colour TVs
  • 20" Chrome Alloys, Privacy screen
  • Mirrored ceiling with optic lighting
  • Changing Colour Twinkle Lights
  • Fully Equipped Bar with Champagne Flutes & Tumblers Ice Buckets
  • Chilled Bottle of Complimentary Champagne
  • Style, Comfort & Sheer Luxury – arrive in style
Pink H3 Hummer Limousine - Interior

That makes it an absolute luxury and it will leave you feeling like a royalty when you are inside it. That is one of the privileges of wealthy people - the chance to feel the pleasure of supreme comfort brought about this kind of vehicle.

I want to experience the same pleasure from a home-like luxury vehicle with a unique design, but I don’t have the wealth or the reason to be able to ride one. Maybe I could just turn my home into a limousine-like unit perhaps. I just don’t know how. :D If somebody does, just let me know - I would even feature it here (just kidding). But, I still wish for even a 5-minute sneak inside.

Prius: A Limo In The Works?

Calling the Toyota Prius a limo is quite a misnomer for some. But others say it isn’t an impossible thing.

Moshe Leib's little Toyota Prius won't compete with the stretch Hummers and black Lincoln Town Cars picking up customers in Hillsborough County, wrote Steve Huettel of The New York Times. At least for now.

According to the report, the county's Public Transportation Commission rejected his request Wednesday to license the trendy fuel-sipping car as a limousine. This was done without discussion at all. Moshe’s Prius would have been the first hybrid vehicle licensed for public hire in Hillsborough. But Hillsborough won't license it as a hired car.

Moshe, the owner of TB Limo Black Car Service in North Redington Beach, said that commissioners didn't talk over his proposal. He said Chairman Kevin White posed the only question: Did you bring a picture of the car?

Hybrid vehicles are beginning to show up in limo fleets nationwide, said Camella Lobo, an assistant editor of Limousine & Chauffeured Transportation magazine, a monthly trade publication. About 100 of the 8,500 limo and car service companies in the United States have at least one vehicle running on hybrid engines or biodiesel fuel, she said.

Moshe purchased the black Prius with black leather seats a couple of months ago for $26,000. Eight customers have paid $54 for a ride from Pinellas County to Tampa International Airport, the report said. Moshe waives the $4.50 fuel fee charged to riders in his five Lincoln Town Cars. "People feel good about using this kind of car," said Leib, a former computer systems analyst and onetime cab driver in Pinellas. "To the airport and back, I need one gallon of gas instead of three."

Without the county license, TB Limo can drop off customers at the airport or elsewhere in Hillsborough however, the company’s drivers can’t pick them up.

Staff members opposed Moshe's application because the commission's rules require limo companies to use "luxury" vehicles as listed in the Kelley Blue Book. Executive director Gregory Cox said that giving Moshe a waiver would let other companies ask to operate inappropriate vehicles for a high-end service. "I'm concerned about opening that door," he said.

The issue isn't hybrids, said George Vallee, the owner of Airport Limo of Tampa Bay in Seminole. Commission rules allow companies to operate top-of-the-line SUVs - such as the hybrid Lexus RX 400 - as limos, he said. But the big vehicles cost more and get much lower gas mileage.

A small car like a Prius "lowers the standards of the industry," Vallee said. "By no stretch of the imagination is a Toyota Prius a luxury car," he said. Moshe promised to refute the contention of the commission in court.

Obviously, the issue has to be addressed as soon as possible. Economic and environment concerns are mounting and a timely decision has to be had. I see nothing wrong with having Prius on the hired car list though.

Fastest Limo

Here’s a limo that you might not see often or even hear of often. You already know about Hummer limos and the way they have been stretched and designed. You also know of the biggest limo but I’m gonna share with you what the fastest limo is. A Porsche limo is fast. A Mercedes-Benz limo with its Mercedes 500 SEL radiator is also fast. But the distinction of being the fastest limo is reserved for a Ferrari limo.

The said limo is dubbed as the “world’s first and only Ferrari 360 carbon fiber stretch limo”. Having a limo ride is one cool thing for sure, but having a Ferrari for a limo is truly amazing. The said limo was designed by Dan Cawley of Style Limousines which is based in Manchester, England. Cawley has been designing limos and I’m sure that the Ferrari limo is the most memorable for him.

According to the limo’s site, the idea for the Ferrari limo is the result of Dan’s penchant of taking a step forward. He has already designed a stretch Porsche limo, a Range Rover Sport limo, and the largest limo in the United Kingdom - the Terminator - and this he did when he was looking forward to a challenge.

And what are exactly the challenges of building the Ferrari limo? According to the makers of the limo, these are the major points that they considered in making the fastest limo in the world:

  • To determine the optimum stretch length of the conversion, and to account for a further six passengers whilst retaining minimum deflection of the body structure.
  • The stiffness and overall weight increase of the conversion will determine how the vehicle performs under acceleration, braking and cornering

  • It is recognized due to the increase in wheelbase the vehicle dynamic cornering ability will be affected.

Another problem according to the builders of the Ferrari limo is that Dan‘s ex-wife claimed that she is entitled to the Ferrari that Dan is planning to stretch. This was resolved though after Dan cut the car in half and asked his ex-wife which end of the car she wants. LOL. And so the building began. The project started last December and the Ferrari limo is now ready for business. It will soon be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the most technically advanced limo. It is also the longest Ferrari.

Tips To Consider In Renting A Limo

Planning an excursion elsewhere? Or worrying about a wedding transport? Well, renting a limo could be the most practical thing to do…

Basically, there are some things to consider before hoppin’ into that comfy limo. You have to be sure that the limo is perfect for you and your needs.

Planning is crucial. First thing first - you have to know what type of limo is needed. Would it be a Standard Stretch, Super Stretch, SUV Hummer, Escalade, or a Rolls Royce? Think. Then you can consider the size of the limo, the number of passengers to be accommodated, and other essential factors.

There are so many limos, so many companies - how are you supposed to choose? Different limo rental companies have varied rates. If you happen to know a company with dubious or too low rates, that should put you into inquiry. What limos are they offering? Are they old and overused? Are the limos legal and safe? How about the company’s drivers? Are they skilled and reliable? Do they have a license? What do these rental companies offer? If you only have to add $10 to $15 to get the first-rate limo and service, why compromise?

There are other queries you should be asking before renting a limo. Know how long the limo rental company has been in the market, how huge their limo fleet is, the cost, the minimum hours required, types of payment, the extra rates for exceeding rent hours, other offers and other important issues to be learnt.

If you want to rent another vehicle aside from the limo, you could ask the company representative if there are any special offers. Without you knowing it, the company might be offering discounts when renting different vehicles. Just the simple of act of asking could save you a good sum.

Another thing to get is the contact information - the name, phone number of the person to be contacted in case problem arises. You can also ask the contact person about essential details like the schedule of the service. Other information such as whether the driver is wearing uniform or not should also be asked.

Before signing the contract with the rental company, read everything that’s written. Make sure that the terms and conditions you have tackled with the representative are there.

Think wisely, plan ahead and be wary. That way you can never go wrong.

Princess Diana’s Crash Limousine Now For Sale at £1 Million

The tragic death of Princess Diana several years ago shocked the world. Many people have grieved for the loss of their beloved and compassionate princess. After months and years of mourning, people have moved on but deep inside their hearts, Princess Di will always live for the rest of their lives… So what’s the relation of the princess to limousines?! I know you’re going to ask me that kind of question!

The thing is, the controversial death crash limousine of Princess Diana is being scheduled to be sold by its ex-owners for a spanking £1 million. Wow! That’s big money! It's way too expensive than the Audi R8 with the best Audi performance chips!

Etoile Limousine owner Jean Francois Musa is in search of the safekeeping of the car ruins. Jean Francois Musa wanted to take it back to France. Etoile Limousine was the group who is responsible for renting out the car to Ritz hotel executive Mohammed Al-Fayed and Dodi's father who was involved and suffered in the incident as well.

Back in August 1997, the crash limousine was transported to Europe right after the incident happened. The limousine used had a very significant part in the incident’s investigation. It was only lately that Musa wished to be compensated for the damage that has been done and for the loss of the limousine after nine long years.

Musa explained that he had several things in mind on what he would like to do with the crashed limo. He believed that it was an extraordinary car wreck and he once thought of donating the crashed limo to the museum. Nevertheless, after he learned about the value of the vehicle, he wanted to put it on sale in exchange for financial charge.

"It is an exceptional wreck - like the one James Dean died in. We were told it was worth at least £1 million," he said.

An Audi Limo

There’s really something about that four intersecting circles that just makes me stare. I’m talking about Audi’s logo and, of course, Audi cars in general. The Audi grille for me is the best looking there is. I especially like the nose of the Audi A4. Since I love Audi cars, I think it’s time to share with you an Audi limousine.

So I surfed the net looking for the best Audi limo which I found at this site. What they have is an Audi A8 3.0 V6 limousine. You can visit the site if you are interested in taking a ride in an Audi limousine. If I can afford one, I would just buy that limo.

The Audi A8 is not just a limo with a stunning look and performance. It is also an award winning vehicle. In 2005, the Audi A8 has been given the distinction of being the Chauffeur Car of the Year. Paul Gibson, the Editor of The Chauffeur Magazine, has this to say about this limo: “As the industry grows, the choice of vehicles available to chauffeurs also grows. Audi should be very proud that the A8 long-wheel base has stood out as the best vehicle in its class.”

The best in its class is what the Audi A8 really is. This is the flagship vehicle of the German automaker and it embodies the values of the automaker and shows where the company is headed in terms of styling and performance. It shows in the reliability of its Audi A8 parts which are engineered to work perfectly with each other giving it that performance that Audi is known for all over the world.

During the awarding of the distinction, Liz McConnell, the Specialist Sales Manager for Audi Business Sales, outlined how important the award is to the company and the reputation of the A8. She said: “The level of interest in Audi we registered throughout the show made it an extremely worthwhile venture for us, especially as we also beat some pretty exalted luxury cars to an award judged not only by respected authorities in the chauffeuring industry, but also by professional drivers across the country who spend most of their working lives in luxury saloons.”

Award or no award though, I would still prefer the Audi A8 limo over any chauffeur cars. It has that Audi badge in front and that’s good enough for me. LOL.
