No Drinking On Limos

http://www.chillisauce.co.uk/images/301-400/326.jpg
If you are in Calgary and you have booked a limousine prepare yourself for a surprise.  It seems that they no longer allow consumption of any alcoholic beverages on livery vehicles out there and that includes limousines.  The Calgary Herald reported that the city has passed a bylaw which prohibits anyone from drinking alcoholic beverages even a bottle of Champagne.  That's pretty tough huh?

It seems strange as these vehicles are known to be vehicles where one can relax and celebrate without having to worry about driving while drunk. If the driver drinks the alcoholic stuff then that's a problem.  Even a manager of a livery transport service in Calgary does not understand why the law was passed.

"I don't know why that's in there," said Koji Miyaji.  "But I enforce the bylaw that council passes and city council passed this one.  I do understand, though, there was a lot of industry input in terms of passing this bylaw and it was in the works for a number of years."

It was also reported that of all the cities in Alberta, it is only Calgary which has the bylaw concerning limousines. In contrast, there are provincial rules which permit anyone to consume alcoholic beverages on livery vehicles provided that the driver has a special license. Now that makes sense just like using Mercedes radiators.

My take on this goes something like this.  if a person is responsible enough to hire a limousine to go to or from a party, I think that he or she should not be penalized.  If one goes into an occasion where there is a chance that he or she will drink alcoholic beverages, then it would be better for everyone else if a limousine will drive him or her home.  The same goes for occupants who just want to celebrate with a bottle of champagne on the back of a limo.

What Are The Most Sellable Limousines?

Limousines are the most luxurious car type and not everybody can own one. This why there are limousine services that allow rental of the unit. They are not ideal for everyday use. There are several limousines on the road, but which do you think is the best seller?

The net answered that it’s the Lincoln Town Car according to industry experts. They also added that the limousine from Ford is the very popular choice for luxury car limos. The car is very famous among all the limos for it is the only one with a bigger space and a roomy interior. Not only that, the Lincoln Town Car is also used by many limousine services. There are also vehicle conversion companies that choose the Lincoln car when building a stretch limousine. There are also some companies that choose Cadillac or Mercedes-Benz because of comfort and style.

For so many years, only the Cadillac is the noted car maker that produces limousines but after the Great Depression and World War II, negative impact covered the entire limousine industry and only the Cadillac was the only one to survive in the car market. However, buyers of today prefer to buy SUV limousines and thus it was considered to be the more sellable one.

The Hummer H2, H3, the Cadillac Escalade and the Ford F-650 superstretched limos are just few samples of SUV limousines in the US car market today. These limousines are usually preferred by younger or middle-aged clients. They don’t have the Dodge exhaust but these are modern day limousines equipped with the newest and the latest electronic gadgetry, like the fiber-optic lighting, as well as DVD and CD surround-sound systems.

Maybach Limo Drops Its Top

To lure the superrich, Maybach is launching a convertible limousine concept dubbed Landaulet, connected with the pre-war models. The stunning limo is based on Maybach's 612hp 6.0-litre V12-powered model 62S. A drop-down fabric top replaces the metal roof from the top of the B-pillars to the bottom of the rear windshield.

Wikipedia gives a backgrounder:

Landau, when used about an automobile, generally means a simulated convertible.

It is originally a coachbuilding term for a type of carriage, see Landau (carriage). Many coachbuilding terms transferred over to automobile usage, since coachbuilders began making motor car bodies instead, and because customers were familiar with coachbuilding terms. The landau, however, was not a style that transferred well to the automobile. A forward view was generally insisted upon by passengers, and so the half-landau landaulet style, instead of the landau, became a more popular choice. The landaulet opens over the rear seats, but not the front. Some of these vehicles were inaccurately described as "landaus".

In the 1920s and 1930s, especially in the United States, the term "landau" became used for a simulated convertible, in which a fixed roof of a sedan with solid rear quarters was covered with fabric or leather and fitted with side landau bars to make it appear like a convertible top. This became the commonly accepted definition of 'landau' in North American usage thereafter.

What’s special about the limo?

The automaker said the soft top can roll down completely in just 16 seconds. The top has to be pulled down manually, by the chauffeur, and not by electrical means.

For Maybach wants it to be a chauffeur-driven vehicle. As you can see, there's a glass partition between you and the driver for privacy. For extra privacy, you can press a button and the glass will turn opaque - clever isn't it?

The interior tone is all white whether they be the deep gloss paint, thick pile woolen carpets, supple leather seats and trims. The black highlights are unique to Maybach for they are finely polished ebony-colored granite instead of wood. The front compartment, on the other hand, is totally black as to be discreet and not distract the attention of people away from you at the back.

Where and when will be made and sold? According to reports, the limo will be made in a limited production run as from next year.

Are you dying to own this limo? Whoa. Be still. Maybach has not given the base price yet but experts say it should be significantly higher than the B90m or so currently being asked for the 62S.

My Pick

I'm just being curious here.  We know that a Prius limo has already been built as well as a Ferrari Enzo limo.  What I am curious about is whether there would be someone brave enough to make a Ssangyong Rodius limo.  If you have seen the said car, you know for a fact that it does not look that good really.  In fact, this site describes the Rodius as:  "If a person were to take a collection of blind kittens at a heavy metal concert and ask them to design a car whilst stabbing them repeatedly with a sharpened stickle-brick, then the result would almost certainly be an improvement on the Rodius."

Here are some more cars (and their description) which I am wondering if anybody will ever stretch into a limo:

  • Reliant Bond Bug: Bond cars were rather unsurprisingly owned by Reliant Motors when this freaky tangerine 3-wheeler was introduced around 1970. Probably no coincidence that this was a time in UK history when mind-bending drugs were a common recreational activity.
  • Renault Megane:  By extracting the DNA sequence of a bead of sweat from a Turkish sailor's armpit and feeding it into the factory prototype milling machine, Renault were able to release a model that fitted perfectly into their range without the need for an expensive design team.
  • Honda Insight:  Well hats off to Honda for saving the planet - but was it really necessary to board up the rear wheels in order to get an extra 0.5 mpg?
  • Renault Avantime:  Clever use of a recycled bus shelter has allowed Renault to sell these contraptions for £17.95 at selected wine merchants and still make a profit of 83% on each one.

These cars are tagged as the "ugliest" in the UK.  But I know that these cars are really not bad since they made it to production after all and some of them have reliable parts too which are as reliable as Dodge fuel doors.

Music And Limousines

There were two stretch white limousines seen parked at the Social Club with both past and future Tejano music in the Rio Grande Valley. There are five musicians inside the two white limousines to be honored at Edinburg’s Tejano Walk of Fame. These five men are known because of their decades-long legacy of serenading fans. They are also regarded as the hopes of the future.

There are also special appearances by Little Joe, Roberto Pulido, Bobby Pulido and Rene Sandoval - all well renowned Tejano musicians - at the show. The organizers were able to sell tickets for the show and every table is worth $1,000 so you could see your favorite Tejano musicians.

All the proceeds will be donated to the University of Texas-Pan American music department which is going to be used on financing on the scholarships for aspiring musicians.

One among the Tejano artists at the show is Freddie Martinez who remembers his fans following him during his shows in Chicago and California. Genaro Aguilares of Los Aguilares is also going to be at the show.

“Here in the Rio Grande Valley is where my music was first created,” Martinez commented when Bernal stood beside him.

Gilberto Pulido is also a member of the organizers of Edinburg’s Tejano Walk of Fame. He said, “They’re paved the way for a lot of the region’s musicians.” He also said that anyone can help by just coming to the event.

Five groups of musicians were also invited to the walk of fame however they failed to have new members in two years.

“We’re very excited to bring this back to the city of Edinburg,” said Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa. “Tejano music has been with us for very many years,” he added.

You can read more about it when you visit their site online. Acura tail light guards are also available online. Just in case you need one.

Toyota’s New Driving Stimulator

It can be a hard task if you start up a limousine service business. But to some, the investment is a good choice. We are all aware of the growing numbers of tourists over decades. A limousine rental service is a good business since tourists cannot bring their wheels during their tours.

Although there are many limousine rental companies sprouting like grass in the market, there is always room for another limousine business. You just have to make sure that what you offer has a great difference in terms of reasonable rental fees and good and quality rental limousines. These are the two major things that a customer is looking for in a limousine service.

Make sure that your limousine is elegant and will definitely give your clients comfort and real time quality service. Your car parts must be secured as well. Just like the quality of the BMW 325ic radiator. These customers are also knowledgeable in terms of car specifications.

Now, who are the potential limousine clients?

According to the Limousine and Chauffeur magazine, the highest possible limousine buyers are those from these following clients:

  • hotel and resort clients
  • night-on-the-town transportation
  • corporate shuttling
  • weddings
  • funeral transport
  • proms

The business is usually broken down into two major aspects: corporate/professional clients and occasional customers. Most rental firms specialize in either one or both.

Corporates are the ones that use these limousine rental services. They also use the service for ferrying their clients, customers and executives because limousines are known as comfortable cars. This also incuded air to hotel transportations as well as driving through restaurants and other entertainment venues like theaters, malls and tourist spots.

You have to anticipate that since these clients are paying much for the limo services they get, they will definitely ask and demand for more services. Make sure you give the right and reasonable amount of service for the amount they pay.

Take A Posh Ride…

What car would you like to take you for a ride? How about on special days such as your wedding?

Do you like a stretched SUV limo or a fine town car? Whatever your choice is, you sure want it nice and comfy. And oh, not to forget, it should be memorable in a fine way!

Cadillac, Lincoln, Hummer - take your pick.

"Brides are going with all different vehicles, but the two most popular seem to be the Chrysler 300 Asanti Edition and the Chrysler 300 Phantom White," said Vince Santroni, marketing manager of JBJ Limousine in Woodbury. The Chrysler 300 Asanti has features such as Lamborghini front doors and suicide back doors. According to Santroni, many brides like the suicide doors because it is easier for them to get in and out of the limo.

Color is an important factor. "Many brides are going with black limos to offset their white dresses," said Santroni.

Rental companies tend to get booked faster during spring and summer seasons, so don't let your big day be spoiled.

Experts recommend that you compare prices first before making a decision. But do not make price as the sole consideration.

Courier Post Online gives the rest of golden tips:

Look for a well-established company that maintains a large fleet of newer vehicles -- the firm usually will be more reliable and be able to provide a ready replacement if your limo gets sidelined. Always seek references from recent customers.

Make sure you know exactly what you'll be getting for the quoted price. Most companies charge by the hour, with a three-hour minimum. This can range anywhere from $250-$500 for a full-sized luxury car to $1,000 or more for a stretch specialty model. Is the driver's gratuity -- usually 10 to 20 percent -- included?

Be sure to read the rental contract thoroughly before signing. It should denote the make, model and year of the vehicle, the date of service, pick-up times and locations, all costs involved (including the deposit) and the company's cancellation policies. Do your homework now and when your big day comes you'll be able to just sit back and enjoy the ride.

 Make it happen. Act now.
